Telemark Skiing

Telemark skiing is fun! It doesn’t matter whether this is something you have never done before and so you need to do some attempts at walking first or you may already place yourself into a group of people who strive after telemark skiing already. There is one thing that is for sure: The fever of Telemark skiing infects anybody who gets in contact with it.

Telemark skiing- the origin of skiing is discovered in a recent way

More and more often a lot of sportsmen in winter stop right in the middle of a slope in the Tyrol to observe a person telemark skiing. With very elegant but dynamic turns you can go down slopes. It is the origin of skiing, the best turns ever doable, and this is why it has become a mainstream sport in the Tyrol.

But we won’t conceal that Telemark skiing is not a very easy sport to learn. It demands power, endurance, the ability to keep your balance and coordination in order to experience this sport successfully in nature. The person who is Telemark skiing represents someone who likes nature very much, who wants to uplift himself over the rank and file and who enjoys it to slide over the snow in a very particular way.

The Telemark skiing turn is characterized by a lunge- made possible by a free heel and a highly flexible boot: Put your heel high up but low down your knee! At the same time you should edge your exterior ski to the front and move your interior ski backwards.

There are plenty of opportunities when it comes to Telemark skiing. As a beginner you may prefer skiing on straight and gentle slopes but you will see that it won’t take much time and then you will probably accept the challenge: moguls, steep slopes, powder snow, races, and so on. A main part of Telemark skiing is to jump. The blow while landing is cushioned due to the special Telemark position.

Since the heel is free and the material is very lightweight, it is a very convenient equipment when it comes to ski- touring or hiking through the snow. With only one equipment you can experience all those aspects just mentioned.

There happened to be a very strong development in the area of Telemark material throughout the last few years. The equipment used to be of a similar type to the one used in Nordic skiing but nowadays the trend demonstrates more of a preference for Alpine material. Instead of a leather shoe you wear shoes made of plastic with various buckles. And for the skis, there is a high tendency towards Tele-carving-skis.

But nevertheless neither nostalgia nor tradition is to be lost while Telemark- skiing. Quite frequently people who love to Telemark ski are to be found with typical clothing such as Norwegian garments, women wearing skirts and last but not least with the characteristic wooden stick right in the middle of snowboarders or skiers. This is exactly what makes Telemark skiing so special: a huge family consisting of nostalgic people, participants of races, friends of nature, people of all different society classes who share the same pleasure of one sport: Telemark skiing.
